Biography:
With 25 years of experience in financial services,
Chris Ranney truly enjoys helping clients work through their concerns about retirement and other financial matters. Under his business name, Ranney Capital Management, Chris specializes in helping clients plan for retirement, understand lifespan income planning when they retire and how to manage legacies they may receive or wish to pass on to loved ones and charitable groups. Through a love of meeting people, learning about their lives and helping them achieve their goals based on their unique situations, Chris has built a successful advisory business that provides clients with sound advice and high-touch customer service and support.
Chris began his career in financial services in 1986, working primarily with educators and business owners in the retirement plan market. While continuing to build a successful advisory practice, Chris became an owner and managing principal of Brecek & Young Advisors in 1993, achieving the position of President, Chairman and CEO in 2007. During his tenure, Brecek & Young was named Broker Dealer of the Year five times by Investment Advisor Magazine. For the past 18 years, Chris has had extensive experience in the areas of human resources, marketing and sales, advisor training and building very successful fee-based advisory programs. After Brecek & Young was acquired in 2008, Chris became President and CEO of Iron Point Capital Management, which had been the investment management arm of Brecek & Young and now serves the entire financial advisory community. After retiring from his position at Iron Point in January 2011, he returned to his role as a financial advisor working alongside his wife Shari at Ranney Capital Management. Located in downtown Petaluma, California, Ranney Capital Management has been working with clients for 25 years.
Chris’s early career as a psychologist has served as a solid foundation for him in the areas of leadership, organizational development and the psychology of investor behavior. Through his unique experiences as an advisor, business owner, president and CEO, Chris has expanded on his practice and knowledge of financial planning, advisor relations, marketing and public relations, allowing him to relate to a variety of clients on personal and professional levels.
Chris currently holds FINRA Series 6, 7, 22, 24, 26 and 65 securities licenses and the California life, health and variable contract license. He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association, the Financial Services Institute, the Northern California Planned Giving Council and the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning. Chris continues to make time to give back to his community by working with non-profit groups including The Committee on the Shelterless (COTS), St. Vincent de Paul Church and Schools, the Petaluma Education Foundation and Team in Training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Firm Overview:
Ranney Capital Management is celebrating 25 years of service to our clients this year! Fifteen of those years have been from our current downtown Petaluma location, where we work with individuals and small businesses. We specialize in helping our clients plan for retirement, understand lifetime income planning when they retire and how to manage legacies they may receive or wish to pass on to loved ones or charitable groups. We believe in a team approach and collaborate with a client’s estate planning attorneys, tax advisors and other professionals for maximum benefit to our clients.
First we listen to our client’s needs, wants and desires and really get to know them. Then we formulate a plan to reach their specific goals. We use a variety of investment vehicles to achieve those goals, including fee-based managed accounts, mutual funds, variable annuities, insurance and alternative investments such as non-traded Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). We strive to provide excellent on-going service and periodic review meetings to insure we are on track, making adjustments as warranted.
